Open Letter to CSRA Religious Leaders

Dear Religious Leader,

As a young but growing organization in the area, the Central Savannah River Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State would like to invite you to join us in our effort to maintain the wall of separation between church and state guaranteed in the Constitution, a wall that assures each of us the freedom to worship as we see fit.  Given that the faith of each individual is a highly personal matter not subject to government interpretation, it is incumbent on us as responsible citizens to protect religion from government encroachment and to insure that government remains free of religious entanglement.

Dear Religious Leader,

As a young but growing organization in the area, the Central
Savannah River Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State
would like to invite you to join us in our effort to maintain the wall of
separation between church and state guaranteed in the Constitution, a wall that
assures each of us the freedom to worship as we see fit.  Given that the faith of each individual is a
highly personal matter not subject to government interpretation, it is
incumbent on us as responsible citizens to protect religion from government
encroachment and to insure that government remains free of religious
entanglement.

When our nation’s Founders separated religion and government,
it was a revolutionary experiment. That experiment has been an extraordinary
success. It’s made us the envy of the world, and Americans United wants to make
sure that wise policy continues.  We do
not want to descend into the world of Islamic Law, Jewish Law, Christian Law,
Hindu Law, or any other sectarian equivalent.
If we allow any religion to gain a foothold into government, that
presents a threat to all of the other religions and more importantly to the
individual religious freedoms of all of us.

The Central Savannah River Chapter for Separation of Church
and State will support religious freedom by:

  • monitoring local government activity to assure
    that government is not dictating religious beliefs;
  • assuring that there are no religious
    requirements for holding local government offices;
  • evaluating local schools for activities that
    promote specific religious beliefs or activities;
  • examining local government for unacceptable
    religious influences; and
  • confronting religious intolerance wherever it
    might be found.

If you are sympathetic with these goals, we invite you to
join us in our promotion of religious freedom in the Central Savannah River
Area.  If you wish to join us in our
efforts to promote religious freedom, please contact me so that I can put you
on our contact list.

Sincerely yours,

Frank
